What does Content Publisher do?
Demo Video Showing the basic features of Content Publisher
OK, let me explain the idea behind Content Publisher.
When I build one of my own sites, I usually add quite a large number of articles to the site. This can be very time consuming. I need to edit my template file, paste in the article, edit the meta tags, sort out the formatting, add in links to related articles, add in Adsense, save and upload the article, and finally place a link to the article so the search engines can find it.
On receiving a batch of 100 articles from my ghost writers, it would take a full day or two to get them all published on my site.
Content Publisher was created to speed this up.
Here is what I do now.
1. Create the main site with the main pages of the site.
2. Create a template for Content Publisher.
3. Import my 100 articles into Content Publisher (takes seconds).
4. Click Publish, and the article pages are created, and an article map. Click another button and Content Pubisher creates a set of Server Side Include files (more about these in a minute).
5. Open my FTP program and upload.
Whole process takes 20 to 30 minutes (and most of that is editing the templates).
OK, let me show you a real example.
I created a demo site. It is a very simple site built using a CSS design (although you can use tables if you prefer) that has 5 pages, each of which promote one of my products.
Have a look here:
http://stage1.content-publisher.com
I created this site in Dreamweaver, but you could equally create the site in Frontpage, SEO Website Builder or any other website authoring tool.
Now, I am ready to add my articles.
I am using my newsletters as articles for this demo site.
I imported 5 articles into Content publisher (as simple as selecting the articles, and pressing a button).
I went to the Content Publisher Publishing screen, and pressed a button.
Next, I opened my FTP program and uploaded.
The resulting site can be seen at:
http://stage2.content-publisher.com
The only difference you will see on the homepage, is the new item in the right column called "Sample ezSEO Newsletters".
This item was inserted into the homepage by using a Server Side Includes created by Content Publisher.
Click the link to ezSEO Newsletter 65.
Surprised? It does not take you to the newsletter number 65. It takes you to an article map listing all 5 articles I imported, with Newsletter 65 being the first in the list.
This article map was created by Content Publisher.
The link on the homepage to this article map, means my articles will get found and spidered far quicker.
OK, click on one of the newsletter links.
The newsletter is published on its own page. Note there is bread crumb navigation top right (it is easy to include these in your Content Publisher templates).
In the right hand column, you now have an item called "Related Articles". Content Publisher has picked 3 articles (you can define how many you want) it thinks are most related to the one on the page (this is based on meta keyword tags and article content).
These related articles are created using server side includes again. The links to related articles keeps your visitors happy and moving around your site until hopefully they buy something, or click an Adsense. In addition, these related links will spread PR around the site and increase link reputation to all article pages.
Incidentally the link text used in these related links is taken from the title of the article, but you can add in alternative link texts for each article so that link text is chosen at random from those you specify. This way, you can get several different link texts all pointing to the same article. This is a great way to build reputation for a number of different phrases.
OK, so this demo site is alright, but what if I want to add in another set of articles?
Well, that is easy.
Import the new articles into Content Publisher, go straight to the publish screen and click a couple of buttons.
Open your FTP program, and upload.
I did this with another bunch of articles.
Adding these extra articles took less than two minutes (and most of that was uploading time) since once you have your templates sorted out, you don't need to touch them.
Here is the new site:
http://demo.content-publisher.com
The visible difference on the homepage compared to the last site, is that there is now 5 links in the Sample ezSEO Newsletter section.
Click on one of them.
You are taken to one of three article map pages which link to a batch of my articles (I specified that I wanted a maximum of 5 links per article map page, but you can choose how many you want).
At the bottom of each article map is a link to the other four article maps. This ensures that all article maps and articles get found quickly by the search engines.
If I had another 100 articles to add to this site, I could import them, publish them and upload with FTP in no more than 5 minutes. I might like to increase the number I specified for articles per article map to maybe 30, but that is the only change I would have to make to the system.
OK, now there is a fair amount of talk here about server side includes (SSI). If you don't know how to use SSI, you might feel a little intimidated.
To help you out, I will be creating extra help and videos showing how to carry out all of the steps included in using Content Publisher. These videos wont be available immediately, but hopefully sometime next month. There is already a section in the manual detailing how to use SSI.
